If you're a resident and homeowner in the state of Florida, the state is offering grants to homeowners to Hurricane-Proof your home. The program is a "matching" program but in some cases the state will grant money in full to hardship cases.

LOL, my homeowners insurance on my house in Florida was actually under $5000 this year !!! We got a 10% reprieve on last years costs. Thank god, my homeowners insurance dropped a few hundred dollars this year as well, but between the two, I still just popped close to $8K this month (August is my most hated month because that's when the taxes and insurance are due on my home) Weep
