Hi,
I am in the process of building a few related websites and want to do a blog that would be focused on tips and ideas relevant to the entire complex. I have heard rumor that it is good for seo to incorporate the blog as a subdomain but, because of the relevance to more than one website and some other reasons, I think it might be good to have its own identity and be linked to each site. Can anyone point out the pros and cons here? Is there a huge difference in seo advantage to be incorporated in a website? Thanks
Ron

I  you use  subdomain, Google will give more detailed results about sections of your sites when you search for you domain name alone. This must mean there is some avantage to this

Do you already have your blog at a regular link like

www.mysite.com/blog/

??? If you do, you will need to check your pages indexed in Google and make adjustments using a 301 redirect or some PHP code to make sure to forward any requests for the old url's to the new url's

I think using a subdomain is a good idea as far as PR goes. I tried it on one of my new sites and it seems the subdomain when linked from the main page ends up carrying the same PR even though it doesn't have as many backlinks.

Dear, do you wish to earn from that blog? Occasionally sub-domain hurts in that area.
