A lot of people keep asking the same question over and over again "How long does Google take to see my site" and "How do I know if my site has been indexed". I'm going to share with any of you who have ever asked this question a few simple answers.
begin by checking that Google has indexed your site and note what pages it is seeing. You can do this by going to the Google search prompt and typing, without the quotes "site:www.yourdomainname.com" where yourdomainname.com is your url. This will show all the pages Google knows about your site. (Note: you can even use the site command in Google with urls like "site:www.yourdomainname.com/friends/melissa.html")
To see if you're getting indexed for keywords in Google search
Let's try a test:
Use this forum thread's title as an example "Check the number of pages indexed in Google for your site". That's 10 words and inputted into Google it's likely to return the desired result.
BUT in how long?
We can watch this experiment by waiting and watching the post timestamp to see how long before the post appears for the search terms and if it appear for any other search terms.
The experiment starts now

Sounds like a good benchmark experiment. I'm going to sticky this thread because it has a lot of potential value for learning forum SEO.
disclaimer: I have to admit, forums and blogs tend to pick up indexing in Google much faster than static sites. Additionally, we're dealing with a forum that has 15,000+ pages indexed in Google alone and over 3500 backlinks, so it's almost certain that the results will happen much quicker.
Another possible experiment would be to start with a set of fresh domains and each one using a different technique. It could test and see how well each one is indexed over time.
Anyway, good topic and interesting experiment. |
