I'm promoting my friends blog about Malaysian real estate. I know the US is having problems with real estate values going stagnant but here in Malaysia we are seing a boom in prices. As Malaysia's business centers grow and many US and Europeans are being sent to Malaysia to work there is a growth being seen in quaity housing and many foriegn investors are capitalizing on the trend.
Being a foreigner working in Malaysia, the only problem I see is a humanitarian issue where the native Malaysian people are being squeezed out of their properties by the encroaching foreign interests. Many famalies who once owned land are selling to meet the demand and they are becoming displaced as a result of the boom.
I fear the within a generation that this will lead to a general distrust of outsiders in Malaysia and could lead to turmoil. |

I'm Malaysian by birth (born in KL), but I lived and was educated in the US, now I work and live in mainlaind China but I do think Malaysia is a good place to buy some cheap real estate and hold onto it. Malaysia is going through big developmental changes and the government and enviornment is not the best but it still can't be counted out as having potential for future investments.
For me, it's the people. They have drive and ambition. Right now Malaysia is considered a scammer nation because of bad press and stupid laws but ten years from now, Malaysia will be a powerhouse. For those willing to take a risk, it's a good risk as far as I'm concerned. Much better than Thailand or Indonesia. |
