transparent gif and pngs are tending to leave a black space if they are not multiple of 16x16 (ie: 64x64 or 640x640 resize fine but 520x600 leaves a black area at the bottom). I think you need to do a crop on theimage but cropping is voodoo because where do you crop, the top of the image, bottom or middle. If you want to let me play with the script in a test-bed on your server, i think I can fix it for you. My server doesn't have netpbm and my hosting company wont install it
