| One thing i forgot to mention is that this is useless if the blogs use nofollows in their comments. I haven't checked it out yet though to see what the common blog software is used by edu and gov blogs. maybe they commonly use software that doesn't put nofollows. |

Most of the SEO forums have already shown that "nofollow" is ignored by most of the search engines (including Google). It's more a matter of semantics with only Google as far as passing Pagerank. Regardless, commenting on a highly indexed blog that uses "nofollow" will still get your site indexed a lot quicker.
I'd already shown that Matt Cutts' blog passes "link juice" and gets you indexed almost instantly regardless of the "nofollow" tags. Same with Problogger.com and Shoemoney.com - There's waaaay more to SEO than just passing Google PR. I personally comment on blogs regardless of "nofollow" or not because I've seen it boost my rankings in MSN/Live and in Yahoo. |

| Google has acknowledged they use all backlinks indexing purposes so your site gets indexed. Otherwise forum threads and internal links wouldn't get indexed if there were nofollows on them. But they don't use it for any kind of backlink calculations as far as I know. I have read back when wordpress came out with nofollows in their comments, that MSN and yahoo have also said they don't do calculations on links with nofollows. |

The indexing and re-indexing is extremely important if you have dynamic content like a blog or a forum. Each time a link sends Google's bots to your site, it's a win-win situation for your SEO work. As far as Yahoo and MSN, both of them seem to prefer aged content and they are not so keen about blogs. When I make a post on one of my high PR blogs, it winds up in Google search in anywhere from 2-48 hours, but the same articles seem to take days, weeks or months to get into Yahoo or MSN.
If you can find the .edu and .gov blogs that have "nofollow" disabled it's an even better scenario, but for my SEO needs , I swear by commenting on blogs. I used to only comment on blogs that disabled "nofollow" until I learned the value of keeping a site indexed as often as possible. As with anything, if you're not willing to put a little effort in, you'll gain nothing, but for me, every little bit helps. |

| If you update your blog everyday google will send bots everyday to your site and index it quickly. One of my sites i was writing a blog post everyday and I would literally get the new post indexed within hours every day of a new post. The sites that i rarely update/post on don't get bot visits as often. Sometimes it takes weeks before i see new content show up in google for the sites that Ive neglected for periods of times without updating with new content. |
