Rick Perry is current Governor of Texas who is running for the Republican nomination for President. (btw, I don't like the guy)

Tom Zarek was a former terrorist turned corrupt politician in the TV series Battlestar Galactica. Incidentally, Tom Zarek was played by actor Richard Hatch, who played Apollo in the original Battlestar Galactica series in the 1970s.

Richard Hatch was quoted that his character, Tom Zarek, ran for office because he's always looking for positions where he can leverage himself, where he can have more influence.
