A few weeks ago I had an idea to try a test comparing the quality of search engine traffic versus social media traffic. The goal of my experiment was to test the assumption that search traffic is higher quality than social media traffic. You might have guessed, the search engines proved to be the superior source of traffic. My friends found the research interesting, but they commented that the social networks probably should not be grouped together (ie: FriendFeed, Myspace, Facebook, Twitter). Some are built for the masses whereas others have tightly honed niche audiences. So the question came up - was social media traffic misrepresented by grouping traffic from all networks together? Is traffic from a highly targeted niche network better than traffic from larger generic networks?
Any opinions? |

I think the same thing as manish07. Search engine traffic is somebody already interested in your keywords. Social media traffic you don't know what they are looking for.
If you are trying to get conversions for marketing you should stick with the search engines. |

| I always prefer search engine traffic as it is always more targeted than social media traffic. |
