Snooker Introducing

Snooker is a cue sport that is played on a large baize-covered table with pockets in each of the four corners and in the middle of each of the long side cushions. A regulation (full-size) table is 12 ft × 6 ft (3.6 m x 1.8 m). It is played using a cue, one white ball (the cue ball), 15 red balls (worth 1 point each) and 6 balls of different colours (worth 2–7 points each). A player (or team) wins a frame (individual game) of snooker by scoring more points than the opponent(s), using the cue ball to pot the red and coloured balls. A match consists of a previously agreed-upon number of frames. Snooker is particularly popular in English-speaking and Commonwealth countries, and the Far East, with the top professional players attaining multi-million pound career earnings from the game.

The history and origins of the game of snooker are generally regarded as being in the latter half of the 19th century. Billiards had been a popular activity amongst British Army officers stationed in India, and variations on the more traditional billiard games were devised. One variation, devised in the officers' mess in Jabalpur during 1874 or 1875,was to add coloured balls in addition to the reds and black which were used for pyramid pool and life pool. The word "snooker" also has military origins, being a slang term for first year cadets or inexperienced personnel. One version of events states that Colonel Sir Neville Chamberlain of the Devonshire regiment was playing this new game when his opponent failed to pot a ball and Chamberlain called him a "snooker". It thus became attached to the billiards game now bearing its name as inexperienced players (of which most were due to it being a new game) were labelled as snookers.

I've never played snooker, but I love to watch it on Eurosport. My favorite is O'Sullivan, he's a great player and he's also funny. He sometimes laughts when he does some silly mistakes.

Ding JunHui  (A CHINESE SNOOKER PLAYER)

In February 2004, Ding was awarded a wildcard entry to the Masters in London, where, in the first round, he defeated the then world no. 16-ranked player, Joe Perry, before narrowly losing 6-5 in the second round to experienced top player Stephen Lee after holding a 2-5 lead over him.His performance favourably impressed many commentators, who since then rated him a likely future World Champion.

In March 2005, he celebrated his 18th birthday by reaching the final of the China Open in Beijing, along the way defeating world top-16 ranked players Peter Ebdon, Marco Fu and Ken Doherty. In that final he played against then world no.-3-ranked Stephen Hendry, whom he beat by 9 frames to 5, to score his first ranking tournament win.

In December 2005, he beat another crop of (now former) world top-16 players, namely Jimmy White, the late Paul Hunter and Joe Perry once more on his way to reaching the final of another major tournament, the UK Championship at the Barbican Centre in York. This time he met the resurgent snooker legend Steve Davis in the final, and defeated him by ten frames to six, in doing so becoming the first player from outside Britain or Ireland to win that particular title. Following this victory, his world ranking was provisionally raised from 60 (62 at the start of the season) to 31. At the end of the season, he was ranked 27th. This means that now he does not have to pre-qualify for various tournaments, and only has to win one match to reach the World Championships in Sheffield.

What is the difference between Billiards and Snooker?

Billiards: Any of several games played on rectangular cloth-covered table (with cushioned edges) in which long tapering cue sticks are used to propel ivory (or composition) balls

Snooker: A form of pool played with 15 red balls and six balls of other colours and a cue ball

hope tis answer u

There are many differences between snooker and billiard. U can play snooker in just one way, but billiard u can play in different ways, such are nine ball, etc. In snooker the table is very long and it's harder to get the balls into the right hole. And, of course in snooker tournament u can earn far more money, as it is considered somehow superior to the billiard.

I just couldn't understand snooker really. It so much different from nine balls. Why do they return the red balls they already cued into the hole?
