In social bookmarking, users will bookmark their favorite links online and make it available publicly, whereas in social networking, people will share their photos, video, chat, etc with other people of the same taste. Both are advantageous. Using both with out spamming will do a lot for your website.

For me both are working..If you want traffic from social networking site then you have to made your page on it. Like in facebook i made my fan page and lot of traffic coming from it so try it...
