hi,
A very effective way to gain back links is

search for same business / products or services website and email then for link exchange with your website

google is perfect to search here is some seo serach string below

"add link" your keyword
"link exchange" your keyword
"add website" your keyword
"submit url" your keyword
"add url" your keyword
"free link exchange" your keyword
"reciprocal link" your keyword

make sure that party you are exchanging link ..have link page on there website and they give a direct link to links pages from there home page ...also check google cache if there link is there or not and pr etc.

I think social bookmarking is the most traffic generator than others.

I think blog commenting with higher do follow blog and article submission are the best way to gain backlinks.
