If I put a link on my site to your site, but you don't link back to mine, that is a one way link. If you do link back to mine, it's a reciprocal link. When they see reciprocal links, the search engines figure the sites are just doing it to get links, so they discount the value.

Hey... Simply One-way links are links to your site from sites which do not receive a link from your site. it increase your link popularity.Search engines such as Google place huge importance on link popularity when ranking your site.
Links are like referrals from other sites back to your site. The more referrals you have to your site, the better. A one-way link has higher value than a reciprocal link, which I do not recommend.
Oneway linking is getting backlinks to our site, not exchanging links with the other site. Google gives importance to the site having only one way links.

Let me explain using a very simple and Practical example. consider a radio as one website and yourself as other. the radio is linked to you but you cannot reach the radio transmitting station. you are benefited by it ad you don't have t pay any thing for it. Just like that a link to your website from a website that do not have to link back from your site is one way linking.
