I think Google was slapping sites using redirects thinking they were making duplicate content but these days Google doesnt not penalise or supplemental sites. Too many complaints from legit webmasters make them change their thinking.

Maybe monicaw's site is stuck in some spam filter from Google. If they no longer crawl your site, you will have to submit a reconsideration request in Google webmasters tools.

For some reason, Google has stated that using 301 redirects is the correct way to go but every time I try to rebuild a site and use 301 redirects it takes Google 6 months to a year to catch up with the new format. Even using a sitemap doesn't help.

301’s are also very useful when it comes to dealing with duplication, or website consolidation. An affiliate program is a great example. Let’s say you have 2000 affiliates linking to your home page with a unique URL that contains their affiliate ID. Using a 301 will give you the ability to tell search engine bots that all those unique URL’s are actually the same page. Having them understand that is a good thing because it helps give you credit for the 2000 links and it also prevents the bots from indexing 2000 versions of the same page.

I didn't even think of that use for a 301 redirect Vishenda. Good point.

@Galaxian - How are you doing your redirects? Are you doing them via .htaccess file or are you coding them in a language like PHP? Are you creating your redirects as permanent ? That could be an issue, although I have seen a great deal of latency with Google indexing redirected links, mainly on large sites where you might be redirecting thousands of pages.

301 redirects from one domain to another usually do pass PR and link juice. Google reps have confirmed it and the evidence is in the SERPs. In my experience it's not always a quick pop, but rather Google often seems to go through an evaluation period - possibly for trust purposes.
