From what I understand, SEM is using PPC search to drive traffic at a landing page that advertises something you're selling or your an affiliate of. Jeremy Shoemaker from shoemoney.com has a lot of good articles about how he made lots of money doing SEM.
For me, it seems to complicated and expensive to get into prperly.
