In an interesting article by Michelle Blowers , she points out that before his death, Steve Jobs was obviously very angry at competition from Google Android mobile phones. So much that he was filing lawsuits left and right claiming that Android phone manufacturers were infringing on Apple patents.

Quote
In his official biography, written by Walter Isaacson, Steve Jobs swore in January 2010 to destroy Android over what he saw as 'grand theft' of many of the iPhone's features.

He was furious over the new HTC phone and swore to spend every penny of Apple's 40 billion dollars to "right this wrong". "I'm going to destroy Android because it's a stolen product. I'm willing to go thermonuclear war on this," he said

Apple filed a lawsuit against HTC in March 2010 alleging HTC infringed on twenty Apple patents dealing with user interface, hardware and architecture.

I know Steve Jobs was a genius and a master marketer but seriously, every facet of technology is copied at some point. That's how free enterprise works.  What if only one company were allowed to make TV's or only one company provide high speed internet. You'd have a monopoly.

Maybe people are not commenting so much because of Steve Job's recent passing?

What ever his true motivations were, we may never truly know. And people may continue to speculate.
