Just wondering what small business accounting software you guys recomend. I have a template for estimating and invoicing ect. which runs on Excel. Any advice before I go out and buy the software?
Can anybody give advise, strengths/weaknesses of the following packages:
1. Intuit QuickBooks Accounting Software 2. Microsoft Office Small Business Accounting 3. Peachtree Complete Accounting Software 4. Sage BusinessVision Accounting Software
Thanks |

Good question as I am currently shopping for business accounting software because I've grow beyond my Excel/Access spreadsheet stuff that I programmed myself andI need to be able to share the accounting on at least three workstations in my office. I've been doing a fair amount of research into the packages available and here's what I've come up with.
To start with, you'll surely want to budget somewhere between $150-$300 for a reliable small business accounting package. It all depends on your needs. Are you going to be using it just to balance expenses or are you going to be tracking customers and sales, generating invoices, handling payroll, etc ??
I've used the Intuit (Quickbooks) software in the past but the current software seems to be bloated and you have to pay for add-ons like merchant services, etc..'
Peachtree was my first choice because it is the accounting software I'm the most familiar with. The only issue is that I would need to purchase "Peachtree Premium Accounting 2008, Multi User Value Pack" but the $1099 cost is a little bit more than I'd like to spend at the moment.
Currently, I'm testing a 60 Free Trial version of "Simply Accounting Entrepreneur" by Sage. The thing I like is that the Entrepreneur package is labelles as "For start-up, small and home-based businesses" and it is only $49 per license. I haven't experimented with running it in a shared setting but so far I'm fairly impressed with this affordable package.
The free trial version of "Simply Accounting Entrepreneur" is here : http://www.simplyaccounting.com/freetrial/

Thanks for the information. I am downloading the free 60 day trial now but it is over 400mb
Have you any experiences with the Microsoft Office Small Business Accounting packages? I read that the newest versions of QuickBooks has problems with Windows Vista and when I bought my new laptop, I got stuck with Vista. Too bad they don't offer a free trial so I can see if it works with my system.
I noticed Peachtree has free trials

I am about to download that and give it a side-by-side comparison. |
