I thought this would be an interesting topic to start considering there are so many people trying to lose weight and there are so many different diest out there (South Beach, low carb, Atkins, etc).

If you've used a particular diet method to successfully lose weight and keep it off, please share your experiences here.

I've no weight problem as my weight is ideal for my height but I would like to comment on Atkins diet
from what I've heard on the TV.

There was a school girl who collapsed & died of a heart failure while she was on Atkin diet. She didn't follow the instructions properly & the parents blamed it to this diet as she was healthy except a bit overweight.

Atkins diet is a low-carb & high protein diet. It depends on where the protein comes from. If it is from
animal protein, then people with heart problem have to careful about it as the high saturated fats can't
be good for anyone if you ask any nutrtionist or dietitian.

I can understand why this diet will help to lose weight as protein is more satisfying & takes longer to
digest. So you don't feel hungry that quickly. As a result of it, you eat less.

When I was a student dietitian, I'd given advice to overweight patients. We always ask the patients
to reduce the calories intake daily & eat the right types of food, eg.
1. avoid refined carbs - sugar, white flour, white rice, etc
2. avoid fried foods
3. minimise meat esp. red meat
4. avoid alcohol
etc.
Instead, eat enough fruits & vegs which also have fibre & this makes you feel full.

After doing a lot of research whilst writing my book, I don't eat a lot of meat as high intake of animal protein can lead to oesteoporosis due the the inbalance of calcium/phosphorus & this causes the
leaching of calcium from the bones. I've to stop as I may be going off the topic.

In general to lose weight I will stick to the traditional way of reducing the calories intake & eat the right
types of food.

She may be right as I don't eat anything after my last meal at around 5pm as I go to bed early.
You don't need much energy while sleeping & if you eat just before bedtime, those calories will not
be burnt off & will be stored as body fat.

I don't advise people to skip meals & it's better to eat smaller meals than skipping them. Skipping a meal
may make you feel hungry & this may result in eating more than you need.

oh i see, good answer so in advanced we no need to do restrict diet but we just manage our meal.
How about opinion said we can eat up 4 times in one days but we eat with smaller eat, each we eat there are have separate time between 4 hours, i mean if we eat at 6 am we should wait up 4 hours at least 10 am to eat again and so on. It more good than eat 2 times in one days but with huge meals, we eat lack food in one moment. Is that right too or not ?
Thanks for your usefull answer before

Yes 3 or 4 small meals are better than 2 huge meals but not just before bedtime.

I'm not quite sure how you feel about getting sick. If you read my blog (WorkAtHome & Healthy Living in my signature) , I do talk about exercises which can be gentle & don't make you feel sick. I don't want to advise you about your meals as I don't see you in person.

However, eating small meals & the right types of foods, are important to keep you in good shape & healthy.
