May we never let the things we can't have, or don't have, or shouldn't have, spoil our enjoyment of the things we do have and can have. As we value our happiness let us not forget it, for one of the greatest lessons in life is learning to be happy without the things we cannot or should not have.

Google Alerts and Google Reader are two very powerful tools for keeping track of internet activity but did you know you can use them to keep up to date on books ?

You can use these two tools to keep track of upcoming releases from your favorite authors or topics that interest you.

Here's how to use Google Alerts and Google Reader to find new books :

1.) Go to Google Alerts, select the alert type as "Books"  and use the following meta searches to setup an alert

Quote
inauthor:"Stephen King"
use inauthor: to find books by a particular author, in this case, Stephen King

Quote
intitle:"Vampires"
use intitle: to find books with keywords in the title of the book

Quote
inpublisher:"Simon and Schuster"
use inpublisher: to find books by a publisher

Quote
subject:"Horror"
use subject: to find books on a particular subject

2.) Once you have the alert search setup, select "feed" in the "Deliver to:" field and press "create alert"

There you have it. You now have a Google Alert for your favorite author, book subject or publisher set to update Google Reader each time something matches your criteria.
