I know that this question has bprobably een asked before a lot on here, I apologize. However, I'm just confused slightly. I have an Amazon affiliate website with "xbox" in the domain name, and I don't know whether I should take it down.

Most people say stay stay away from brand names, but if I look on Google and even Flippa there are loads of IM sites which use "xbox" in their URL just like I do. Are they taking a risk? Well even if they are, I don't want to risk getting into legal trouble myself.. Any advice on this is appreciated!

From what I've read, using trademark names in a url is a slippery slope. It all depends on how you intend to use the domain and if the company holding the trademark or brand is likely to file a domain dispute.

I know Apple and Microsoft are two of the biggest ones you want to stay away from. They have filed disputes against a lot of domainers to get domains taken down.

Yeah, some companies will sue/take legal action to get domains with their brand name in it taken down. I think it's safer to stay away from brand names as domain names. You can always target a brand name as a keyword in your blog/site content instead.

Apparently Verizon has raised a claim against 600 domains that include the word "Verizon" in it, and, amazingly, also some that just include "Veri" or "zon" in the name! They claim $100,000 in damages & transfer of the domain. My advice: stay away from trademarks.

I,have been doing online affiliate marketing and building a brand for over 2 years.  Through my experience , using established brand names should be avoided.   It could take time, but eventually GOogle could penalize your site and there could be legal entanglements.

You could still use it but you,re taking a chance.   There are no specific rules online, just be wary.

I like to choose Keywords having domains, because Google gives importance to keywords having domains.
