Finding a specialized nich directory to submit your forum to is a great way to gain relative backlinks for your forum.

As of November 2011, it appears only one of these forum directories is still active

http://www.forumlists.com - A PR2 forum directory featuring free reciprocal, $10 regular and $20 sponsored. Listings are for 1 year.

~~http://www.repmy.com - A new directory that features free reciprocal, $1.99 regular and $3.99 sponsored links. Listings are permanent.~~
~~http://www.forumurl.com - A PR2 forum directory featuring free reciprocal, $3.95 regular and $19.95 sponsored links. Listings are for 1 year.~~
~~http://www.forumvirus.com - A human edited, forum directory. Not really worth the $5 or $30 sponsored links because it's PR0 (What are they thinking?)~~
~~http://www.smfoogle.com - A free PR3 directory for SMF forums only. Seems to be down at the moment.~~
