What is the need of IIS in asp.net web applications.if we have in-built asp.net development server..

I'm not certain because I've been working with Linux/apache forever but I'd assume that the asp.net development server is for developing applications and IIS is for release.

iis is basically internet information service and asp.net is language here ,asp is base of asp.net and cant work without IIS
