I'm thinking is it better to open Amazon affiliate links in a new browser window or tab? This way the visitor wont't navigate away from your website but then they could also forget and just close the window or tab to your site.

Any advice on this option?

It's always a good idea to open a different site in a new tab/window. This way, the visitor could come back to your site to read more of your content, sign up for your newsletter,etc.

If you don't want them navigating away from your site then you should consider the Amazon affiliate widgets. These widgets allow your visitors to search Amazon while remaining within your website.
